Photoshop/Photoshop Elements - Shooting Raw, using 16 bit processing, Photoshop Layers and Layer Masks.
A Photoshop demonstration showing why shooting raw is a great route to high quality photography. First a practical demonstration using two identical images, one Jpeg and one Raw. Then a work through of a real life project to show the difference after the exposure and colour balance has been corrected via Adobe Camera Raw, Smart Objects, Layers and Masks. We work on a typical shot that may not look so interesting when viewed as a small thumbnail, but we can demonstrate first impressions are not always what they seem, especially when we shoot raw.
Photoshop/Photoshop Elements - Understanding and making full use of Photoshop Layers
Layers are the powerhouse of Photoshop, but many Photoshop users hardly ever use them. Through practical demonstrations, we explain simply how they work and demonstrate a number of examples of how they can be used from simple fixes to the more complex and/or creative way.
Exposure and its effect on Image Editing
Exposure remains the Holy Grail of Photographers and it could be argued it's even more important in the digital age because our photographic expectations are now higher. However, many new comers to Photoshop become frustrated, because they try to create a great picture from an exposure that isn't really good enough. Their inexperience with Photoshop gives them the perception that almost any image can be repaired and made good, but when that doesn't happen, frustration sets in.
Photoshop is powerful and it can sometimes make up for our mistakes, but if it can do such good work with a badly exposed image. Think what it might do if you got the exposure better to start with.
How to Win
This talk looks at what judges are looking for in a competition image and what makes one image stand out from the crowd. Via practical demonstration we look at preparing an image for a club competition, selecting, re sizing and sharpening the image so we present the best possible result. We point out the pitfalls and explain how you can increase your chances of doing well.
Surprise surprise, what the judges are looking for is exactly the same as we should all be looking for in our every day photography. An interesting image, a different viewpoint, a well exposed, composed and post edited image. Then we should present that image in the best we can, not thrown up on the screen trusting to luck.
70% of amateur photographers miss the obvious and in this talk we get the message across with practical demonstrations and by showing plenty of competition images.
General talk and Discussion
We bring a multitude of our own current images, not those dusty monochrome prints taken 25 years ago, but those shot last month or last week. We present the images and discuss what led up to us pressing the shutter button. That is often as important as the exposure and post processing. The choice of time. Location, lens and digital photographic technique. How we get the very best image captured, so post processing becomes easier.
To entertain and inform club members you need a number of great images. We feel we can provide that with current up to date images of high quality.
Photoshop/Elements - Image presentation
In this demo we demonstrate the basic presentation techniques to the more creative. Mats, drop shadows, creative frames and more
Digital Audio Visual – An Introduction
Not all the images we shoot can be masterpieces in their own right, so most of us end up with lots of good images, but perhaps not stand alone competition shots.
That is where AV comes in, It makes a great partner for our digital photography because it allows us a creative use for images that might not otherwise be seen. We will demonstrate from start to finish how easy it is to create stunning slide shows with inexpensive software. We look at slide show size and resolution choices, preparing images, selecting images and creating titles and end credits. Also music selection and copyright issues right up to the finished project.
During the demo we show some of our own audio visual creations to encourage and inspire.
Digital Audio Visual – Animation and Creative Techniques
Aside from the basic creation of audio visual sequences we can get very creative with sound editing techniques and visual techniques. We are not talking here of visual gimmicks, but techniques that enhance a slide show, not detract from it. Techniques like differential focus, the third image, animated monochrome to colour and more.
A demonstration probably better suited to an audio visual group.
Camera Craft
Here we deal with learning to use a digital SLR. We use on screen graphics that allow the audience to see through the viewfinder of a typical camera on the digital projector screen. We can deal with apertures, shutter speeds, exposure and much more. Time will be the limiting factor in what we can cover.
